Ingredients

  • Mutton 1/2 kg
  • Pigeon pea (Tuar/Arhar dal) 1 cup
  • Onion 1 (finely chopped)
  • Oil 1/4 cup or 4 tbsp
  • Mixed whole garam masala 1 tbsp (cinnamon,cardamom,black pepper,cloves)
  • Ginger garlic paste 2 tbsp
  • Tamarind paste (Imli paste) 1 tbsp
  • Salt 1 tbsp
  • Chili powder (lal mirch) 2 tbsp
  • Coriander powder (dhaniya) 1 tbsp
  • Cumin powder (zeera roasted and grind) 2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric (haldi) 1/2 tsp
  • Tomato 3 medium size pureed
  • Green chilies (hari mirch) 4-5
  • Coriander for garnishing (chopped)

For Tempering:

  • Clarified butter(Asli ghee) 2 tbsp
  • Cumin (zeera) 1 tsp

Method

  1. Soak all the lentils(Dal) for 2 hours.
  2. Boil the lentils(dal)with chopped onion until tender.
  3. Mash and keep aside.
  4. Heat oil add whole spices with ginger garlic paste, salt, chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder,garam masala powder, turmeric and pureed tomatoes, fry well until oil separates.
  5. Add mutton and fry well for 6-7 mins.
  6. Add 3 cups water cover and cook till mutton becomes tender.
  7. Add in the boiled and mashed lentils(dal) with green chilies,mix well.
  8. Add tamarind pulp and Cook on low heat for  8-10 mins.

For Tempering:-

  1. Heat clarified butter(Asli ghee) add cumin.
  2. Add to the dal and simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Garnish with chopped coriander.
  4. Serve with Plain Rice/Baghara Rice.
