Garlic Butter Naan

  • Non-Veg

  • All Purpose Flour(Maida) 2 ½ cup
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Instant yeast 1 ½ tsp
  • Yogurt whipped 4 tbsp
  • Melted Butter 2 tbsp
  • Garlic finely chopped 2 tbsp
  • Onion seeds(kalonji) 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves(hara dhaniya) chopped 2-3 tbsp
  • Honey 1 tbsp
  • Melted Butterfor brushing
  • LukeWarm Water or Lukewarm milk(approx 3/4th cup) or as required


  1. Sieve together flour and salt in a bowl.
  2. Add yeast and honey to 1/4 cup warm water, keep aside for 5 to 10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  3. When yeast is raised to desired consistency.
  4. Add All Purpose flour, raised yeast, yogurt, melted Butter and knead to a soft dough with lukewarm water or lukewarm milk.
  5. Wrap with a cling film or wet muslin cloth and keep it in a warm place for 2 to 3 hours to rise.

Naan Recipe baked in Oven

  1. Pre heat oven to 230 degree C or 550 degree F, place a tray in the oven to heat.
  2. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured flat surface.Punch down the dough.
  3. Split the dough into equal portions and shape each into a ball.
  4. Cover and leave to settle for 7-8 mins.
  5. Dust the Ball with flour and gently roll in oval shape a little.
  6. Sprinkle chopped coriander, chopped garlic and onion seeds.
  7. Roll it slightly with a rolling pin, so that it gets pressed along with the naan.
  8. Roll into a tear drop shape 10 inches long,5 inches wide and 1/4 inch thick but not thin.
  9. Place on onto the oven tray and bake for 5 minutes until top slightly brown and large toasted spots appear on naan.
  10. Repeat with the remaining dough.
  11. Brush with melted butter.

Naan Recipe without oven:-

  1. Place the Naan on the hot skillet or heavy bottomed griddle (tawa).
  2. Dip your fingers in water and gently pat the rolled naan.
  3. Place the naan with water side down.
  4. Cook for 1 minute, until you see bubbles forming on top.
  5. Flip and cook for 1-2 minutes on the other side until large toasted spots appear.
  6. Once the Naan is partially cooked, Remove the tawa and cook the top side of the Naan over the open flame.
  7. Cook it on all side, you will see black spots on the naan.
  8. Brush with melted butter.
  9. Serve hot with Butter Chicken / Kadai Paneer or your choice of Gravy/curry.
  10. Wrap them in a kitchen towel or Aluminium foil to keep warm and soft.
